Mission of the Church of the Nazarene
Our mission is to make Christlike disciples in the nations, and this is reflected in our statement of mission.
- We believe that every person has the potential to become a Christlike disciple.
- It is our responsibility as a church to help them reach that potential.
- Our core values—Christian, Holiness, and Missional—guide us in this mission.
- We strive to live out these values in everything we do.
Seven Characteristics of the Church of the Nazarene
To better understand how we fulfill our mission, let’s take a look at the Seven Characteristics of the Church of the Nazarene. These characteristics, also known as the Seven Core Values, are:
- Meaningful Worship
- Theological Coherence
- Passionate Evangelism
- Intentional Discipleship
- Church Development
- Transformational Leadership
- Purposeful Compassion
These values shape our beliefs and practices and guide us in fulfilling our mission.
Objectives of the Church of the Nazarene
So, what are the objectives of the Church of the Nazarene? Our primary objective is to advance God’s kingdom by preserving and propagating Christian holiness as set forth in the Scriptures.This means that we strive to:
- Live holy lives and spread the message of holiness to others.
- Foster holy Christian fellowship.
- Encourage the conversion of sinners.
- Support the entire sanctification of believers.
- Promote their upbuilding in holiness.
- Maintain the simplicity and spiritual power manifest in the primitive New Testament Church.
We also have a responsibility to preach the gospel to every creature, as commanded by Jesus in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19)..
This reminder of our mission is deeply needed especially in a time when churches are drifting into performance and away from disciple making 🇺🇸 United States
As a member in Germany I’m encouraged to see the global unity in our values especially purposeful compassion 🇩🇪 Germany
The Seven Core Values bring balance to our theology and practice in a way I hadn’t appreciated until now
It’s the emphasis on holiness that drew me to this denomination and the call to live that daily not just preach it 🇺🇸 United States
Transformational leadership must not just be discussed but modeled in our pulpits 🇿🇲 Zambia
We need more preaching on entire sanctification because so many believers stop at forgiveness 🇨🇦 Canada
This church has helped me understand that discipleship is not optional it’s the mission
What struck me most is the call to preserve New Testament simplicity something often lost in today’s structured Christianity 🇺🇸 United States
Missional living starts in the home and I’m grateful the church includes that in its focus 🇰🇷 South Korea
The values listed are a true blueprint for churches across cultures 🇿M Zambia

This helps realign our priorities back to why the church exists and what it means to be Nazarene
